Semi-Permanent is a design event which travels to Australian cities and to 7 other countries. They organize talented relevant designers/artists to inspire and also discuss their work. The event encompasses Graphic Design, Film, Art, Illustration, Web Design, Photography, Visual Effects, Animation, Graffiti, Motion Graphics and Stop Motion.
Earlier in the year (March) the event was in Sydney. As part of the Tafe course we had to create a postcard for Semi-Permanent in the style of one of the speakers. I picked the wonderful Jessica Hische!
Below are a few examples of her work. I recommend checking out her website! Her designs are flawless.
(On an embarrassing note, while looking for images of her work, I realized her logo is a silhouette as well. Oops!)
Below is my postcard.
My postcard reads:
“Jessica Hische is a designer, typographer and illustrator based in Brooklyn, New York. Her original style and hand-drawn typography have gained her popularity. She has worked clients including Tiffany & Co., Victoria Secret, and The New Times amongst others. Her work has been showcased in magazines such as Graphis, How and American Illustration. She has also been featured as one of Step Magazine’s 25 Emerging Artists, Communication Arts ‘Fresh’, Print Magazine’s New Visual Artists 2009 and The Art Directors Club Young Guns.”
Another amazing designer I learnt of was Jasper Goodall. Most people have seen his work and not realized. He designed the album cover for Muse’s single Invincible, as well as the other smoke inspired pieces for the band. At Semi-Permanent he took us through how his work has developed over time. You can check out his website here.
