The other week I was given the assignment of recording a daily activity and using the research to create either a piece of jewellery or an object. I recorded the motion of using my laptop with carbon paper. The carbon paper picked up the movements of using the track pad – specifically the movement of scrolling (which uses your middle and index finger up and down).
I wanted to join the fingers using rings so the wearer was limited to the movement of scrolling. The aesthetic properties of the carbon drawing were bought into the ring by creating a stylised memory of the action itself. I worked with silver for the piece, which I then oxidised and sanded back slightly to mimic the scratchy texture of the drawing.
